Lori Berd stands as a medieval fortress situated 4.9 kilometers northeast of Vahagn Resort, at the junction of Dzoraget and Urut gorges. It was likely established by Davit Anhoghin, around 1005-1020. By 1065, Lori was designated as the capital of the Kyurikian kingdom, boasting a population of approximately 10,000 residents.
The enclosed area, spanning about 9 hectares within the first city wall, functioned as a citadel. A 214-meter-long fortification extended from the northwest of the citadel, with widths reaching up to 20 meters in certain sections and heights ranging from 20 to 25 meters.
